Wolf Ranch by Hillwood is proud to be a part of Building Homes for Heroes’ newest construction project. Founded by a first responder after September 11, 2001, Building Homes for Heroes was established to gift a single home to one veteran. Now, years later, this organization has grown to gift over 225 homes to injured veterans across the nation.

In August 2020, Perry Homes, a Texas home builder for over 50 years, broke ground on the latest Building Homes for Heroes project right here in Wolf Ranch by Hillwood Communities: a specialized home for Army veteran Sergeant Kristopher Biggs. Sgt. Biggs served the U.S. military for seven years including two deployments in Iraq.

Building Homes for Heroes has partnered with communities and corporations throughout the nation, including, Perry Homes within Hillwood Communities.  This will be Perry Homes 12th home they’ve specialty built and donated to injured soldiers and veterans through the Building Homes for Heroes organization.  This is the second partnership this year between Building Homes for Heroes and Hillwood Communities, partnering in Wolf Ranch in Georgetown and also Union Park in the town of Little Elm north of Dallas.

Perry Homes is a family-owned and operated company that has grown to be one of the biggest and most trusted home builders in Texas. They are proud of their Value Built Commitment, a five-step process that ensures Perry homeowners that their homes will be above-standard and at an affordable price. Those steps include: trusted reputation, superior design, energy efficiency, quality assurance, and an amazing two year warranty on every build.

Like the other eleven Building Homes for Heroes houses built by Perry Homes, this one will be built to accommodate the individual needs of the chosen homeowner, Sgt. Biggs.

During his second tour in Iraq, Sgt. Biggs was injured in an explosion that left him with traumatic brain and leg damage.  After the accident, and ultimately a leg amputation, Sgt. Biggs continued to stay active as he started participating in various adaptive sports and activities such as sky diving, bull riding, MMA fighting, adapted surfing, the BattleFrog Race, and the Savage Race.

Sgt. Biggs is an amazingly strong individual and has been awarded the Purple Heart, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal w/ Campaign Star, National Defense Service Medal, South West Asia Service Medal, USA/ USAF Pres Unit Citation, and the Combat Action Badge for his brave actions in service to our country.

“Perry Homes is honored to have the opportunity to construct a new, carefully-crafted home for Sergeant Kristopher Biggs, a true American hero. Perry Homes greatly values the sacrifice our servicemen and women make every day in this country, and around the world,” said Perry Homes City President Chris Little, “They represent one of our core ‘Champion Charities.’ We are also excited to partner with Building Homes for Heroes and Hillwood Communities to give back to this dedicated veteran, and hope it allows this Hero to have a more comfortable, personalized living experience in his new home.”

Perry Homes along with Building Homes for Heroes and Hillwood Communities are designing a handicap-accessible, 1800 square foot home for Sgt. Biggs here in Georgetown, TX. In addition to the standard three bedrooms, two bathrooms, home office, and an extended backyard patio there will be multiple structural modifications made to fit the Sergeants specific needs. Those include custom kitchen cabinetry, broader hallways, an adapted primary bathroom shower, and several other safety features.

“We fully support our country’s veterans and continually work to give back to these brave men and women.” said Hillwood Communities Austin General Manager Duke Kerrigan. “Hillwood Communities is thrilled to welcome Sgt. Biggs as the newest resident in our beautiful community of Wolf Ranch. We hope he makes many wonderful memories here for years to come.”

Like every home built through the Building Homes for Heroes organization, and in hopes to help remove the financial burden, this specially modified Perry home will be mortgage free. Additionally, the organization offers multiple other programs to help home recipients with their future planning such as emergency support, financial planning services, and family funding.
Sgt. Biggs’ home is expected to be completed by this December.
